Job description
We are looking for a highly professional and skilled engineer, who is passionate about the European Power System and the Energy Market. Are you ready to work at the forefront of planning the European energy system? If yes, ENTSO-E is the right place for you.
As the Energy Modelling Senior Specialist, you will be part of the Modelling Operation team, within the System Development Section. You can expect to lead and actively contribute to various tasks of the team. The Modelling Operation team is responsible for delivering all System Development market and network studies, especially the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) package, including development of Scenarios, System Needs study, Offshore Network Development Plan (ONDP), Cost-Benefit Analysis covering timeframes up to 30 years ahead.
You will contribute to the Association work mainly in taking a key role supporting the efficient running and delivery of the TYNDP package, in developing methodologies and in stakeholder interactions. You will provide technical leadership and support the organisation of a group of experts directly responsible for the development and delivery of TYNDP studies. Activities include, but are not limited to, organising and directly contributing to the deliveries of technical aspects of the TYNDP, supporting project management and data collections, and interactions with stakeholders. You will also support the work of the different groups involved in the project (Steering Group, Working Groups, Regional Groups).
The role is based in ENTSO-E’s office in Brussels in the System Development Section, reporting directly to the Modelling Operation Manager. You will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid model, allowing for a blend of remote and in-office work to support a good work-life balance.
Travelling limited to 2-5 times per year (approximately 2 days each) may be required.
Your responsibilities
Lead the planning and coordination of technical activities to ensure the successful delivery of the projects, with effective risk management and issue escalation.
Lead and support technical studies, ensuring high-quality analysis aligned with ENTSO-E’s strategic goals.
Improve and refine methodologies related to the different System Development products.
Drive innovation in market modelling techniques to improve model robustness and reliability.
Identify and implement improvements to processes, communication flows, and modelling approaches.
Coordinate data collection efforts across teams and ensure high standards of data quality management.
Facilitate internal communication with Steering Groups, Regional Groups, and Working Groups to support project decision-making.
Interact with external stakeholders, including ACER and the European Commission.
Prepare and lead project meetings, ensuring clear agendas, actionable outcomes, and effective follow-up.
Guide and support junior team members where needed in their development and project contributions.
Assist management in setting project priorities to ensure focus on strategic objectives.
Prepare and moderate meetings, incl. agendas, session files, presentations, decisions, minutes drafting, action tracking.
Profile
We are looking for someone with the following skills and abilities:
University degree, preferably in electrical engineering or energy engineering.
At least 5-8 years of relevant work experience in the energy sector.
Good understanding of European energy landscape from a technical, regulatory, policy and market perspective.
Strong coordination or project management skills, with proven ability to plan organise, establish priorities and see the helicopter view and interdependencies between projects.
Deep modelling experience, ideally applied to electricity market and/or power systems using software from commercial packages or open-source platforms.
Strong understanding of mathematical optimisation methods and applications on power systems
Proficiency in data analytical skills for big data processing, automations and quality checks, using tools/languages such as Python, R, SQL or similar.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English, with ability to communicate on key benefits and risk mitigation actions to senior decision makers and external stakeholders.
Eager to take coordination initiative, facilitate consensus, showing vision, and delivering.
Fast learner and able to adapt easily to a continuously changing work environment.
